Trailblazing women have played a vital role in the Wissahickon Valley for many centuries. Join FOW Trail Ambassador and Philly’s 2020 Women’s History Month honoree, Kris Soffa, to celebrate the legendary Wild Women of the Wilderness, a Revolutionary spy, and environmental advocates whose efforts have resulted in this wilderness park, the crown jewel of the Philly Parks System. We will be meeting on the eve of the equinox, exactly 12 hours before the official arrival. The Wissahickon Trail Classic was established in 2006 to highlight the Wissahickon Valley Park as one of the best trail running destinations on the East Coast. Back for its 16th year, the Wissahickon Trail Classic will engage hundreds of trail runners from the region, providing a unique race experience in Philadelphia’s premier park. Benefiting Friends of the Wissahickon, funds raised through the Trail Classic will go directly back into the stewardship of the Wissahickon trail system and watershed. One of the largest markets of the year, the MEGA market surrounds 3 whole city blocks along Frankford Ave, Trenton Ave, & York Street and hosts over 200 local vendors. Meeting at St. Martins Lane and Huron Street Join us for a dynamic fitness hike through some of the Wissahickon’s most beautiful and varied landscapes! We’ll start along Cresheim Creek, exploring different kinds of terrain, and visit highlights like the Fingerspan Bridge by Jody Pinto, the Frog Pond, and more. This 2-hour hike has become a favorite go-to adventure in the Wissahickon—it is challenging, scenic, and deeply rewarding. This hike is appropriate for adults ages 18+, and service dogs are welcome.
