Discover the Wissahickon: Orange Trail Outing

Our Discover the Wissahickon hike series is presented by Newrez.
Join Trail Ambassadors Sheryl Rose, Andrea DeSabto, and Doug Gibson on a hike along Orange Trail and Forbidden Drive. Along the way, we’ll pass some of the Park’s most iconic landmarks, including Devil’s Pool, Glen Fern House, Fingerspan Bridge, and several WPA structures. This moderately difficult hike includes a large staircase, a rocky stream crossing, and several narrow sections of trail where steady footing is a must.

Parking and Transit: If you’re driving, there are several parking options near the Inn. The northern parking lot can be accessed by Wises Mill Road from the Roxborough side of the park, and the southern by Valley Green Road from the Chestnut Hill side. Overflow parking is in the Upper Lot on Valley Green Road. If taking public transit, you can take the 27 bus to Henry Ave & Wigard Ave and hike about 20 minutes down to our meeting location. See map for details.
Bathrooms: There are outdoor restrooms by Valley Green Inn.
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain, extreme heat, muddy conditions, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.

Discover the Wissahickon is a guided hikes series made up of 14 routes spanning almost every section of the park’s 50+ miles of trails. On these hikes, our knowledgeable Trail Ambassadors will lead participants on an exploratory journey through the Wissahickon.
