Did you know Wissahickon Valley Park has over 50 miles of trails? Keeping them safe and enjoyable takes ongoing work, and our trained Crew Leaders play a key role in this, guiding small teams of Zone Stewards to care for different sections of the park.
This Saturday, we’re bringing extra volunteer support to the park’s South side (East Falls/Wissahickon area) for a variety of stewardship tasks. This service day is one in a series of Zone Steward-led service events happening throughout the summer.
All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities:
• Trail work: using long-handled tools for scraping, digging, tamping, and cutting; moving heavy objects
• Planting site preparation: using long handled tools for cutting, scraping, and digging
• Invasive plant removal: bending over, using long handled tools for cutting vines
• Litter clean-up
We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
