Even still, there are many misconceptions about whether or not it is appropriate for hearing parents of deaf children to sign with them. This presentation will show what it looks like for a child to become a bimodal bilingual, using two languages in two modalities (speech and sign), and how hearing parents can be part of this journey.

  • Manayunk Canal Towpath Boardwalks Rehabilitation

    Venice Island Performing Arts & Recreation Center 7 Lock Street, Philadelphia, PA, United States

    Project Status: Design The goal of this project is to make the Manayunk Canal Towpath between Leverington Avenue and Lock Street safer, more resilient, and more accessible. To accomplish this, the Towpath’s two wooden boardwalks between Green Lane Bridge and Cotton Street will be rehabilitated with more flood-resistant materials. New trail lighting will be installed between Lock Street and Leverington Avenue. Safety railings will be rehabilitated along the boardwalks. Additionally, this project will include canal wall remediation work and incorporate a new ADA-access ramp to improve pedestrian and cycling access to the Schuylkill River Trail.     When schools are closed, we are open! Keep curious young minds and busy bodies active with the Schuylkill Center Day-Off Camp. Trained educators lead students grades K-6 on unique nature-themed explorations that take advantage of our science lab, Discovery Center, and 365 acres of beautiful wooded trails, streams, and ponds.
