But there is great diversity among goldenrods, with over 70 species in the eastern U.S. Many are stunningly beautiful, and it is possible to select species that will bloom from early July through the first frosts. Goldenrods are also critical nectar sources for a staggering array of insects and serve a vital role in ecological webs.
