Contemplative Looking: New Now VI

August 26, 2023 @ 12:00 pm

Free

Please join us from noon – 2 pm at the InLiquid Gallery for a guided art experience led by Rev. John B. Hougen, Ph.D., Art of Interfaith Understanding Coordinator at Interfaith Philadelphia.

During this time together, we will slow down and give close attention to specific works of art included in the New Now VI exhibition. John will guide participants in contemplating the relationships of color, style, technique, content, and spiritual impact in the works by contemporary local artists. Following group discussion, participants will be given time to explore the exhibit alone or in pairs in search of art that speaks to them. Participants will be given time to contemplate what the artwork offers and the impact it has on the viewers’ thoughts and feelings. The group will reconvene in time to tour the works chosen by each person or pair and discuss them together.

Rev. John B. Hougen, Ph.D. is an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a program coordinator for Interfaith Philadelphia. Since 2015 he has led The Art of Interfaith Understanding, an annual series of tours/discussions at the PMA using art as a resource for deepening spirituality and learning about diverse religious traditions. He enjoys writing, painting, photography, cheering for UVA and Philadelphia sports teams, and time with family and friends. He lives in Elkins Park with his spouse, E. Marcia Hougen.
