  • Morris Arboretum & Gardens’ Papermaking with the Plants Around Us

    Morris Arboretum & Gardens 100 E Northwestern Ave, Philadelphia, United States

    Making paper from foraged materials can yield beautiful, interesting, and surprising results. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of hand papermaking, creating sheets from locally grown materials. The session includes a walk around the Morris to observe plants used in papermaking and other paper-related crafts such as surface dyeing. Attendees will go home with a small stack of handmade sheets whose unique character reflects the botanical environment. Led by Emily Tipps of the Book Arts Program at the University of Utah.   • Artist Talk: Cavin Jones

    Join us on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 2 PM in the Art Department for a talk by Philadelphia artist Cavin Jones. Cavin Jones is a painter, muralist, and collagist whose figurative work is inspired by American history, particularly the African American experience. Jones has said that his work is "a catalyst to stimulate thought and promote discussion about various issues prevalent in society." His dynamic compositions often feature contrasting elements that as he says, "infuse the paintings with layers of meaning and associations."   • Image Par Image Collage Workshop

    Parkway Central Library 1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA, United States

    Join artist Natasha Guy for a workshop that will use collage as a way to explore historical images. 2026 marks not just the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, but also the 200th anniversary of photography. In honor of these celebrations, participants will use historical images from the Print and Picture Collection to compose a collage and discuss what they've made as a group, exploring topics like how a city pictures itself, how photographs build collective memory, and the ways that history can be reopened through collage.
