Learn about local stream ecology and aquatic animals while trying your hand at electrofishing. Join scientists Paul Overbeck and Rich Horwitz in a morning of catch and release fishing to help collect data on wild fish populations. Participants can pull on waders and fish or stay on the bank and record data. Last year’s study gathered data on 19 different fish species, and this year they are looking to improve!

7/16 Philadelphia Orchard Project Music Festival
The POP Music Fest and fundraiser is back for its third year. Five local bands will take to the stage to raise money for planting orchards throughout the city. Between sets, Fish n’ Chips DJs will keep you moving, plus beer from PHiladelphia Brewing Company and some of the city’s top food trucks will make sure your belly’s happy as well.

7/16 Camphill Kimberton Summer Music Fest: The Hootenanny
The Hootenanny has been organized to celebrate the joy of local culture at the scenic Camphill Kimberton Hills. Musicians will perform on the hay wagon stage and the Camphill Café will be serve up local and organic fare. Vendors will be on hand as well, and children will get the chance to see farm animals and learn about a working farm. Be sure to pack your own plates and utensils because to score a reduced meal price!

7/16 Progress Under the Stars Vanishing of the Bees
Join the Kensington South Neighborhood Advisory County for a documentary screening of “Vanishing of the Bees,” a look into why honeybees are dying in great numbers, a phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder. The screening will take place in Frank’s Kitchen’s re-purposed vacant lot. Be sure to bring your own mug for $10 all-you-can-drink Yards beer!

7/16 Seventh Annual Good Food, Food Beer and the Rest Is History
Join Slow Food Philadelphia and Farm to City for a joint fundraiser under the Headhouse Square shambles. This year’s event will feature a pig roast and brews from local breweries. Pigs are being sourced from Countrytime Farms; don’t worry, vegetarian options will also be available for the meat-free set.

7/17 Philly Stake Dinner
Enjoy a local foods picnic-style dinner outside at Bartram’s Garden in celebration and support of creative community projects. Listen to 10 project proposals and then, vote for which organization deserves your cash (the cost of your ticket). At the end of the dinner the winner is announced and awarded the micro-grant. The more attendees, the bigger the grant! Philadelphia’s gentlemen glee club Silver Ages will also be performing. Online and Shot Tower are sold out, but there are still 100 available for purchase at the door. But, be sure to arrive early, as the final few are sure to sell out fast!
