This evening, prominent paleontologist Dr. Jack Horner will present a free lecture on Dinosaurs, mainly “how to get rid of some old ones and make some new ones.” If you’re not familiar with Horner, he’s a bit of a dino-celeb. He served as the technical advisor for none other than the epic Jurassic Park films, and is responsible for discovering a number of new dino species, including the Maiasaura or “Good Mother Lizard.”

Slow Food Philly and the Restaurant School’s Slow Food Chapter have teamed up to host a variety of food-centric seminars this spring. Tomorrow the team, and host PHS, will discuss the how-to’s of starting a kitchen garden. Designed to get your gears turning, this seminar will give you the know-how to get a jump start on growing in your own backyard. A tasting of seasonal greens and fresh herbs is included to give you a taste of the delicious bounty your green thumb could create.

5/19 Urban Sustainability Forum: We Are Our Water
The ANSP’s monthly Urban Sustainability Forum is back again to offer eager environmentalists an evening of insightful and valuable information on the natural world. This month’s presentation will discuss the delicate issue of water management, which if not handled wisely, could wreak utter havoc on the world as we know it. Representatives from the Water Department, along with building owners and operators, and community groups will share how Philly is leading the way on water…and what you yourself can do to help.

Duck out of work early on Friday for this evening lecture on sustainable business practices featuring the woman who coined the term in Philadelphia, Judy Wicks. Open to the public, the Drexel U event will feature topics including, public policy for sustainable businesses, local sustainable systems in Philadelphia, and strategies for implementing the best business practices for environmental and economic sustainability.
