Sign your kids up for the Academy of Natural Science’s Academy Explorers Camp from April 18 to April 29. The camp is located in Center City and runs from 9am to 4pm with optional before (8-9am) and after (4-5:30pm) care. Each day features a live presentation by one of the Academy’s teacher-naturalists, exploration of Academy exhibits, “camper-only” games, and craft time. Sustainability in East Africa at Pennypack Farm: Josphat Macharia founder and director of the Ndabibi Environmental Conservation Centre (NECC), an NGO (non-governmental organization) in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya, will discuss his experiences in agroforestry, water harvesting, and bio-gas production in Africa. NECC uses educational programs to teach communities sustainable agriculture and conservation practices, so that families may reduce poverty and become self-sufficient. Modified: A Look at the Future of Food: This event is part of the Philadelphia Science Festival. Join Dr.Dominic Sisti of the Penn Center for Bioethics and Dr.Nina Fedoroff, Science and Technology Advisor to the US State Department, for an interactive and enlightening discussion about agriculture, technology, and the future of the food. In 40 years, one in every four people will starve unless food production more than doubles. Come learn what the future of food holds. This event will be held at La Salle University, 1900 W. Philadelphia Science Festival presents, “Here on Earth: A Conversation with Tim Flannery.” Author and environmental activist Tim Flannery will illustrate the history of life on our planet, and how species have had devastating effects on many of the earth’s ecosystems.
