Stroehmann Bakeries Walk + Run Against Hunger is celebrating it’s 15th walk/run to raise funds for local food pantries and soup kitchens. The annual event supports more than 100 food pantries, soup kitchens and hunger agencies in SE Pennsylvania and South Jersey. Register to walk or run here. Run: $20 until April 7 ($30 event day). Walk: FREE. Donations and fundraising efforts are encouraged.

The 2011 Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event will give you a chance to get rid of dangerous waste safely. You can drop off waste at the Streets Department’s Training Center (State Rd. at Ashburner St.) Examples of typical materials accepted are pest control products, chemical fertilizers, cell phone batteries, fluorescent light tubes, and paint thinners. Chester County Preservation Fair is a one-day, one-stop event you won’t want to ignore. This event will feature all the trades and services you need for your historic home, barn, church, mill, or office. Cost: $10 for the public, $8 for member. If you’re a supporter of local food then consider attending the Dickinson College 2011 Local Food Dinner for an annual celebration of food, farmers, and community. This is a fundraising event to support the Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign, devoted enthusiasts of farming and great local food. This year’s local food dinner will be hosted by Anna Lappe, daughter of Frances Moore Lappe, international advocate of sustainability, food politics, globalization, and social change. A lively farmer’s market will follow the dinner in the Holland Union Building lobby.

The Haverford Tree Tenders Program, organized by the PA Horticultural Society and supported by TreeVitalize will be hosting a Tree Tenders Workshop in which volunteers will be able to participate in planting trees at various locations in the Philadelphia area. GreenFaith is pleased to present its interfaith environmental education and training event, “Ground for Hope-Philadelphia.” This event will feature a variety of keynote speakers like, Rev. Dr. Bob Edgar, former General Secretary of the National Council of Churches and current President of Common Cause.
