Stoneleigh is the public garden of nonprofit Natural Lands. The garden provides joy and well-being for thousands of guests every year through inspiring displays of native plants that support local ecology in a magnificent former Main Line estate.

    featuring the works of Pauline Oliveros  In collaboration with Bowerbird, Stoneleigh is pleased to present the Arcana New Music Ensemble performing the music of Pauline Oliveros’s works The Well and The Gentle. Pauline Oliveros’ (1932-2016) life as a composer, performer and humanitarian was about opening her own and others’ sensibilities to the universe and facets of sounds. Her career spanned fifty years of boundary dissolving music making. In the ’50s, she was part of a circle of iconoclastic composers, artists, and poets gathered in San Francisco. In the ’60s, she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth, and ritual.

    The diverse and growing gardens of Stoneleigh sustain a variety of migratory songbirds during spring migration. Flycatchers, orioles, thrushes, and warblers wing their way across the garden, stopping to fuel up during their journeys.    Bring a pair of binoculars and get ready for a relaxing morning of looking and listening for birds in the garden.

    Most people are familiar with the innumerable benefits of living trees, but even after their death, trees provide vital habitat, shelter, and food for wildlife. Join our partner, Morris Arboretum, for a program to learn how dead and dying trees still teem with life, from tiny termites to fantastic flying squirrels and everything in between.
