Join us for a riveting evening with Dorian Anderson to learn about his exciting yearlong adventure as he took a two-wheeled eco-friendly twist on the Big Year project, where a birdwatcher tries to observe as many species as possible during a calendar year. He ultimately survived subzero temperatures, drifting snow, gusting winds, lightning storms, mountainous ascents, dog attacks, crumbling roads, and several accidents. By the end of his travels, he had spotted 618 bird species across 18,000 miles of biking! FOR ALL AGES Dismal Run has been designated the cleanest stream in Delco, and it flows right through Tyler Arboretum! Join Tyler’s Executive Director, Mike Skuja, as we explore a tributary of Dismal Run along the Blue Trail. Mike will discuss the significance of riparian buffers and stormwater management solutions. We will also observe the impact of the emerald ash borer and learn about forest management practices implemented in response to the ash tree crisis, as well as upcoming restoration initiatives. Join the Junior League of Philadelphia during Mother’s Day weekend for Philly in Full Bloom: A Junior League Market! Taking place on Saturday May 11 at Philadelphia’s historic 23rd Street Armory the event will feature the city’s many sights and sounds of the spring season and allow patrons to shop from some of Philadelphia’s best artisans creators and vendors. Tickets are on sale now for $10 as part of a pre-sale discount and will go to $20 on March 20. Tickets will also be sold at the door for an increased price.
Volunteers will work alongside Farm staff to support seasonal plantings, harvesting, weeding, invasive species removal, and orchard support. Volunteers will meet at the Sankofa Community Farm at 9:30 AM and be separated into groups and provided with instructions and safety protocols for the day. Pollinators in the woods? Explore the many ways wild bees nest and forage in woody habitats. Most native bees are solitary and have long evolutionary relationships with our beloved wildflowers and provide important pollination services which ensure the stability of many of our favorite fruits, nuts, and vegetables. In the northeastern US, up to 1/3 of our wild bee species prefer and rely on forest habitats. Visual artists and married couple Jorge Caligiuri and Chris Curchin began creating artwork together in 2020, forced by the pandemic to share a studio space. They have never shown their work side by side; the upcoming Hyatt Centric exhibit, Pair in Process, will be their first-ever combined exhibit, presenting their reflections on proximity and molding their respective creative processes to make space for collaboration. The InLiquid-curated exhibit, which will be on display for all of May and June, includes a body of work Curchin and Caligiuri created alongside each other.
