  • Toad Detour Training

    Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. Sign

    The Strawberry Mansion Lake has been here for decades, let’s see what’s inside! Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic in observing and documenting this aquatic ecosystem as the seasons change. For February 7th, we are joined by Fairmount Water Works and will take a look at our freshwater mussels that are nursing in the lake. We will learn how to measure them for data, and conclude with sampling the water to view and identify our microscopic organisms.     The Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery invites neighbors and history lovers to join a cleanup day at Mausoleum Hill on the Yeadon side of the cemetery. Volunteers will work to restore Mausoleum Hill, home to some of the cemetery’s most notable structures and the final resting places of people whose lives are woven into the fabric of Philadelphia history.     Our inaugural Creek Clean Up was held in 1970 to coincide with the very first Earth Day! Join us in celebrating both events by helping clean the Wissahickon Creek, its tributaries, and local trails on Saturday, April 25th. This is the perfect volunteer event to get outside and show your support for a cleaner watershed. All volunteers choose a pre-assigned section of the Wissahickon Creek, its tributaries, or a section of trail. Maps (including parking, cleaning boundaries, and trash drop sites) can be found on the registration page. Please note that this is a self-guided volunteer outing and you will join other volunteers

Wildlife rehabilitation can be messy work, and Clinic Cleaners help us maintain a healthy environment by assisting with laundry, sweeping floors, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. Tasks will be assigned based on the needs of the Clinic.
