Martin Luther King Day of Service 2024

Bartram’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia, United States

Join us for this annual day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Your volunteer efforts can make an incredible difference in our Southwest neighborhood! Volunteers must register below to participate! This year’s day of service will take place at Glenda Anne Memorial Garden (5900 Greenway Avenue). We’ll be mulching and weeding the park, as well as cleaning up the block, and more! Warm drinks and light refreshments will be provided, as well as work gloves, trash bags, and other supplies.

Community Clean-up Day

It’s time for spring cleaning! On March 16 we’re calling everyone who cares about nature to join us for a community cleanup day at the Schuylkill Center. We’ll be working along the roadside picking up trash, cleaning up fallen branches, and getting the Center ready for the spring season. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. So roll up your sleeves and come out to make a difference for the neighborhood! What to Bring: Gloves and bags will be provided for litter pick up, as well as tools for invasive species management. Toad Detour Training

Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. This

Even nature needs a little spring cleaning! On Saturday, March 29th from 10am-12pm, join us for our annual Community Cleanup Day. We will be working along the roadside to pick up trash, clear fallen branches, and do some general tidying for the spring season. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Clinic Cleaners

Clinic Cleaners are volunteers who help us maintain a neat and tidy space for our patients at the Wildlife Clinic. Wildlife rehabilitation can be messy work, and volunteers foster a healthy environment by assisting with laundry, sweeping floors, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. Register Now Cleaning materials and personal protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, are provided. This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community. Together, we will work to remove invasive plant species and improve our trails. No experience is necessary. This spring, show your favorite neighborhood park some love! Love Your Park Week is a nine-day celebration of Philadelphia’s public parks from May 10-18, 2025. In partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy, Park Friends groups across the city are hosting events & volunteer cleanups for Love Your Park Week 2025. Over 100 Philly parks need volunteers to help with tending gardens and flower beds, caring for trees, and cleaning up our parks to prepare for the busy spring and summer seasons.
