The Clay Studio presents new exhibitions from alums of their Resident Artist program, including “Urschrei” by Better Lovers, the moniker for the evolving artistic practice of Layla Marcelle and Jacob Raeder. The duo launched Better Lovers in 2016 as a design company that applies contemporary dance methodologies to object-making. Ursula Sternberg: Daydream is a celebration of the career of Philadelphia area artist, the late Ursula Sternberg. Sternberg’s life and career spanned many mediums and multiple continents taking her from Nazi occupied Germany to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. From the 1970s to her death in 2000, Sternberg was actively involved in the Philadelphia art scene, fostering maker spaces that brought together the local community of artists for an opportunity to socialize, inspire, and be inspired. “Feminist Flea Mini Market” is an evening market curated by Zissel of Feminist Flea Market & Craft Fair and designer Bokeum Jeon to highlight local artists and makers for the holiday season. Featuring 10 unique vendors, 50+ local artists currently selling at Baby Tooth, and the 1ST-floor shops of BOK, the market makes shopping from local small businesses for the holiday season easy! Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse invites families to its historic 6 ½ acre Playground and indoor play space in East Fairmount Park to celebrate all things frosty and fun in the midst of the holiday season! Families will enjoy an ice carving demonstration by local sculptor Roger Wing, s'mores roasting over fire pits, an array of winter-themed crafts, and tasty treats. Admission is $10 per child or free for adults, Smith members, and ACCESS card holders. This event is rain or shine.
Come and join us for the Holiday Open House at Historic Waynesborough! Family friendly crafts and snacks will be in the Carriage House where you can create Victorian holiday cards, pomanders, and paper German gingerbread hearts. Candlelight tours of the house will share stories of traditional holiday practices from Anthony Wayne and his family's era.
