On view at the Center for Art & Social Engagement in Westby Hall from October 4 through December 21, Gaia Theory, an exhibition of Emily Erb’s collage and silk paintings. Erb embeds within the boundaries of a larger-than-life human form, navigational charts such as road, topography, and war campaign maps to represent the different facets of the human physiological system. Road maps become the nervous system, topographical maps become the circulatory system, and war maps become the lymphatic system. For Adults 18+ and Youth ages 15-17 We will be hiking out with guide David Eberly to see owls in the Pinetum, as well as some areas outside the deer exclusion fence. We’ll be on the lookout for Great Horned, Screech, and Barred Owls. Less likely but always possible are Saw-whet and Long-eared owls. If the sky cooperates, we will be treated to a nearly full moon when we start the walk. Meet at Hermit Lane Trailhead (Hermit Lane and Henry Avenue) Some of the biggest trees in the Wissahickon await you on this 2.5 mile hike using a lesser traveled footpath in the Lower Wissahickon.
