Grid is transitioning to an all-digital newsroom. We need your help.

Start

Dear Readers,

Grid’s December issue, #211, will be its last in print. Our business model is no longer working. I have mixed feelings about making this announcement. As someone who has spent over three decades in this medium, I’m attached to it. I will forever prefer paper and ink to any other format.

However, I’m excited about what Grid can do as an all-digital outlet. Our editorial mission will remain unchanged. We will continue to provide you with sustainability news and stories designed to inspire and educate, and to hold powerful people and institutions to account. What’s new is that our publishing cadence will change from monthly to weekly. It will allow us to respond to breaking stories more quickly.

I’m optimistic that with this change in format, our journalism will reach more people. Last week, we posted a video that was viewed almost 40,000 times. That’s four times our print run.

But to make this transition, we need your help.

We want to continue providing the climate change and social justice journalism you trust. To do so, we need 500 new supporters. We are launching our “Give to Grid” campaign to reach that goal.

If we hit that mark, we will continue. If not, we’ll plan a big party and celebrate our last couple hundred months together. It has been a pleasure.

Sincerely,
Alex
