Now on Draft: Earth Bread + Brewery serves up local wine

Start

Earth Bread + Brewery is now has wine on draft from the award-winning Karamoor Estates winery. After more than a year of searching for the perfect wine to complement their freshly baked flatbreads, owner Peggy Zwerver and her team at Earth Bread + Brewery have finally chosen a local label to serve on tap. The Mt. Airy restaurant is now offering a chardonnay and red wine from Karamoor Estate, a Fort Washington-based winery.

For Zwerver, an eco-friendly mindset has always been at the heart of her business. Much of the restaurant’s interior and furnishings were salvaged or purchased secondhand. The menu supports local agriculture, and the beer list boasts a rotating line-up of in-house and other regional brews. So, purchasing local wine in casks to limit packaging waste seemed natural.

“For us it was the most logical thing to do because it’s such a sustainable way to serve wine and reduce waste,” says Zwerver.

Plus Karamoor, which has only been in production since 2007, is quickly making a name for itself among local wines. Just last weekend the winery was awarded Double Gold—the top prize at the 17th annual Farm Show Wine Competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
