Help us to improve the health and biodiversity of our forest while getting to know our vast, 365 acres of protected land! This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community. Together, we will work to remove invasive plant species and improve our trails. No experience is necessary. We recommend wearing long pants and sturdy boots and bringing a pair of gloves if you have them available. We will have a selection of gloves if needed, along with tools, water

Honeysuckle season is here! Lonicera japonica, better known as Japanese Honeysuckle, is an invasive species that’s hard to miss in this area, so it’s up to us to make Honeysuckle disappear in the best way we know how – eat it! Join us on a guided hike to learn about this plant and forage a bit for ourselves. After the hike we’ll learn how to enjoy these sweet and tasty plants three different ways. When schools are closed, we are open! Keep curious young minds and busy bodies active with the Schuylkill Center Day Off Camp. Trained educators lead students grades K-6 on unique nature-themed explorations that take advantage of our science lab, Discovery Center, and 365 acres of beautiful wooded trails, streams, and ponds. Please bring a packed lunch, water bottle and an extra set of clothes. Wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited to 30 campers. Sign up early to guarantee your spot. Creative Movement Workshop with Silvana Cardell

In this workshop geared toward family members of all ages, dancer and choreographer Silvana Cardell will lead participants in creative movement exercises. Participants will learn about Cardell’s current project, TERRA: Bodies and Territories, which explores the shared vulnerabilities between women’s bodies and the environment through the medium of dance. The workshop will guide participants in movements drawn from TERRA, exploring how their bodies relate to natural elements, mimicking growth, flow, resistance, and connection to the earth. The session will culminate in a choreographed dance piece. Registration is limited for this free workshop. Participants of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

Harvest natural materials to make collaborative artwork with artist Sarah Kavage. Sarah Kavage is a Seattle-based artist who creates large-scale public art projects that call attention to ecological processes and human relationships with place. In 2021, Kavage and Yaroub Al Obaidi collaborated on Al Mudhif – A Confluence at the Schuylkill Center, bringing community members together to build a traditional Iraqi Mudhif from locally harvested Phragmites. She returns this year to collaborate with choreographer Silvana Cardell on sculptural set pieces for TERRA: Bodies and Territories, an immersive dance performance that premieres at the Schuylkill Center in June. When schools are closed, we are open! Keep curious young minds and busy bodies active with the Schuylkill Center Day Off Camp. Trained educators lead students grades K-6 on unique nature-themed explorations that take advantage of our science lab, Discovery Center, and 365 acres of beautiful wooded trails, streams, and ponds. Please bring a packed lunch, water bottle and an extra set of clothes. Wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited to 30 campers. Sign up early to guarantee your spot. Wildlife Clinic Volunteer Training

Toad Detour Training (Virtual)

Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. This

Help us to improve the health and biodiversity of our forest while getting to know our vast, 365 acres of protected land! This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community. Together, we will work to remove invasive plant species and improve our trails. No experience is necessary.
