We will have ongoing conversations about sustainability and the life cycles of different fiber materials, fast fashion vs slow fashion, and the impact of crafting and handwork on mental health. Quilting Sustainably with Appalachian String Quilting (with Em Vieser)

Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice.Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice. Each attendee will be instructed on how to create a mini quilt comprised of four 8"x8" squares, batting, and backing. Appalachian String Quilting is a traditional approach to quilt making that makes use found materials and provides beginners with the necessary skills to go on and create their own quilts. The act of sewing and creating our own textiles is necessary to build self sufficiency
