Participants will learn fiber arts skills such as sewing, weaving, crocheting, knitting, and mendingParticipants will learn fiber arts skills such as sewing, weaving, crocheting, knitting, and mending throughout this workshop. These basic life skills can be applied to create functional items and wearables, as well as repairing existing garments and household items to extend their lives! We will have ongoing conversations about sustainability and the life cycles of different fiber materials, fast fashion vs slow fashion, and the impact of crafting and handwork on mental health. Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice.Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice. Each attendee will be instructed on how to create a mini quilt comprised of four 8"x8" squares, batting, and backing. Appalachian String Quilting is a traditional approach to quilt making that makes use found materials and provides beginners with the necessary skills to go on and create their own quilts.
