Join Riverbend educators for a preschool-friendly nature-based program that includes a story, craft, nature activity, and a “hike” around our preserve. Every week we’ll gather in Riverbend’s Snider Barn to begin the fun! This program is one hour each week and is designed for children ages 2-5. A caregiver must accompany each child. Siblings under 2 are welcome at no additional charge. The cost is $120 per child for a six-week session. Enrollment is capped at 12 participants. Meet at Houston Playground Join Debbie and Jim on their first hike of the Spring. There is no place like Wissahickon Valley Park to experience the beauty of this time of year. We’ll note the flora, including which flowers, both native and non-native, are blooming. We’ll look for changes in the wildlife also. Our approximately 4.2 mile hike will take us to both sides of the Wissahickon, passing through meadow and woods. Shireen Hamza examines the incorporation of non-Western medicine into biomedical institutions in the United States.The incorporation of elements of non-Western medicine by biomedical institutions in the United States has been called complementary, integrative, or "alternative" medicine. But to offer acupuncture, yoga, or herbal medicine within a biomedical clinic is a radically different context from those in which these therapeutic practices were first developed.In this lecture, Shireen Hamza will explore the long histories of these traditions, their transformation through colonialism, and the plural approach of several "people's medicine" initiatives, including the Black Panthers. Meet at Courtesy Stable Kiosk (901 E Cathedral Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19128) Missed the All-Trails Challenge? No problem. Join us for an “abridged” all-trails loop walk that includes five of the major trails in the Wissahickon. We’ll start and finish at the kiosk at Courtesy Stables on Cathedral Road and enjoy the variety of vistas from both sides of the creek. Volunteers will meet at the Sankofa Community Farm at 9:30 AM and be separated into groups and provided with instructions and safety protocols for the day. Join Tyler Arboretum’s Introduction to Beekeeping Program for a hands-on deep dive into managing honeybee colonies throughout the entire beekeeping season. Gain real-world experience as part of a small, supportive cohort of students under the guidance of Tyler’s lead volunteer beekeeper, Paul Strommer. Colonies are collaboratively managed by the class, enabling the entire group to learn from the challenges faced by some colonies and share in the success of others.
