  • Sankofa Community Farm Volunteer Day

    Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia, PA

    Volunteers will work alongside Farm staff to support seasonal plantings, harvesting, weeding, invasive species removal, and orchard support. Volunteers will meet at the Sankofa Community Farm at 9:30 AM and be separated into groups and provided with instructions and safety protocols for the day. Out of respect and safety for our staff and others, please arrive on time. PLEASE NOTE: Each adult must register individually in order to complete the waiver. Parents/guardians must complete registration for individuals 18 and under. Registration full but would like to still participate? Please contact Kimani Keaton at kimani@bartramsgarden.org to be added to our waitlist.

    January is great time of year for bird watching here at the Schuylkill Center. On January 11 we’re inviting birders to help us collect data for our annual Winter Bird Census! Help monitor the abundance of bird species that winter in our forests and fields. All of the information we collect will be shared with other citizen scientists, helping us to better understand how our local bird populations change over time. Drinks and food will be provided for participants. Birders of any level experience are welcome to join, no experience necessary! This program is for adults only. Sign up for

    Clinic Cleaners are volunteers who help us maintain a neat and tidy space for our patients at the Wildlife Clinic. Wildlife rehabilitation can be messy work, and volunteers foster a healthy environment by assisting with laundry, sweeping floors, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. Register Now Cleaning materials and personal protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, are provided. Volunteers should wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty (yes, that includes animal waste) and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Clinic

    Help us to improve the health and biodiversity of our forest while getting to know our vast, 365 acres of protected land! This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community. Together, we will work to remove invasive plant species and improve our trails. No experience is necessary. We recommend wearing long pants and sturdy boots and bringing a pair of gloves if you have them available. We will have a selection of gloves if needed, along with tools, water

  • Toad Detour Training

    The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education 8480 Hagy's Mill Road, Philadelphia, PA, United States

    Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. This
