  • Volunteer – Winter Gardening

    Did you know more than 100,000 plants thrive at Stoneleigh: a natural garden? Grab gloves and join staff and fellow volunteers for seasonal garden projects. Volunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world, give your time to a great cause, and connect with like-minded people. Capacity is limited for this small-group event, and pre-registration is required. If you sign-up, please show-up. If you need to cancel, please let us know so another volunteer can attend. All are welcome, ages 12 and up. Children age 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Winter Bird Census

    This is a great time of year for bird watching, and we’d like to invite community scientists to help us collect data for our annual Winter Bird Census! We’ll monitor the abundance of bird species that winter in our forests and fields. All of the information we collect will be shared with other community scientists, helping us to better understand how our local bird populations change over time. Sign Up Drinks and light snacks will be provided. Birders of any level experience are welcome to join, no birding experience necessary. This program is for adults only.

  • Toad Detour Training

    Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. Sign

  • Aquatic Saturday at the Discovery Center – Freshwater Mussels!

    The Strawberry Mansion Lake has been here for decades, let’s see what’s inside! Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic in observing and documenting this aquatic ecosystem as the seasons change. For February 7th, we are joined by Fairmount Water Works and will take a look at our freshwater mussels that are nursing in the lake. We will learn how to measure them for data, and conclude with sampling the water to view and identify our microscopic organisms. This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community.     Clinic Cleaners help us maintain a neat and tidy environment for our patients at the Schuylkill Center Wildlife Clinic. Wildlife rehabilitation can be messy work, and Clinic Cleaners help us maintain a healthy environment by assisting with laundry, sweeping floors, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. Tasks will be assigned based on the needs of the Clinic.
