  • Volunteer – Winter Gardening

    Stoneleigh: a natural garden 1829 County Line Road, Villanova, Pennsylvania

    Did you know more than 100,000 plants thrive at Stoneleigh: a natural garden? Grab gloves and join staff and fellow volunteers for seasonal garden projects. Volunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world, give your time to a great cause, and connect with like-minded people. Capacity is limited for this small-group event, and pre-registration is required. If you sign-up, please show-up. If you need to cancel, please let us know so another volunteer can attend. All are welcome, ages 12 and up. Children age 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Seed Cleaning Volunteer Day

    Bartram’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia, United States

    Join Us for Seed Cleaning at Bartram’s Garden! Help our gardeners prepare for next spring by cleaning last season’s seed harvest. You’ll learn traditional techniques like hand-threshing and winnowing to separate seeds from chaff, making them ready for storage and sowing. Volunteers will also pack seeds into envelopes for sale in the Welcome Center. Seed cleaning is a relaxing, family-friendly activity—usually done seated at a table, chatting with neighbors. Registered volunteers will meet at the Coach House promptly at 9:30 AM. Come for the whole day or just an hour or two. Staff will provide instructions, safety protocols, tools and dust

    Love nature and want to lend her a helping hand? Grab gloves and join fellow volunteers in nurturing nature. Good fun (and dirt) is guaranteed! Natural Lands cares for more than 23,000 acres and 120 miles of trails, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers like you. Volunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world, give your time to a great cause, and connect with enthusiastic, like-minded people.   • Restoration Workday

    Help us to improve the health and biodiversity of our forest while getting to know our vast, 365 acres of protected land! This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to learn more about plant identification and restoration techniques while connecting with nature and other members of your community. Together, we will work to remove invasive plant species and improve our trails. Workday Details No experience necessary to volunteer. Training will be provided by our expert staff during the workday. We recommend wearing long pants, sturdy boots or shoes. We will have a selection of gloves if needed

  • MLK Day of Service

    Come together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy at the Schuylkill Center during this day of service on Monday, January 19th from 11am-1:30pm. All members of the community are invited to join us as we work on service projects aimed at protecting the health of our forest and supporting nature at the Schuylkill Center. There will be a wide range of service projects available so everyone can participate! Registration is required for this popular volunteer opportunity. Light refreshments will be provided.     This is a great time of year for bird watching, and we’d like to invite community scientists to help us collect data for our annual Winter Bird Census! We’ll monitor the abundance of bird species that winter in our forests and fields. All of the information we collect will be shared with other community scientists, helping us to better understand how our local bird populations change over time. Sign Up Drinks and light snacks will be provided. Birders of any level experience are welcome to join, no birding experience necessary. This program is for adults only.

  • Toad Detour Training

    The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education 8480 Hagys Mill Rd, Philadelphia, PA, United States

    Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. Sign

Our small team of clinic staff relies on the support of dedicated Wildlife Clinic volunteers to care for native small mammals, birds, raptors, reptiles, and amphibians. Start on your path to become one of our dedicated Wildlife Clinic volunteers by attending a volunteering training session.
