  • Nature at Noon at Academy of Natural Sciences – The Art of Nature: Drawing from our Collections

    For this one-hour outing, we will meet at the Academy of Natural Sciences, 19th St. Entrance security desk. Bring your own art supplies, or use our tempera paint sticks, color pencils, markers, watercolor paper, and collage materials to recreate insects and birds from our collection. We will have a variety of native pinned insects and a variety of preserved birds from our collection. This event is for any level artist, and intended to inspire awe through close observation of native species we easily miss in the wild. We also invite word-artists, and non-visual art mediums!   • Free House Tours: Second Saturdays at Cliveden

    Cliveden 6401 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, United States

    Cliveden offers free house tours the second Saturday of the month through October. Tours are available from 12 pm to 4 pm, beginning on the hour; last tour of the day is at 3 pm. Visitors will view two exhibits: "Procuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation" and "Looking Glass." No registration is needed. Visitors should come to the Barn (98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119) and speak with a Cliveden Interpreter to begin their tour.

  • Spotlight Tour: Constructing Germantown: The Buildings of Jacob Knorr

    Among the best-known buildings of Germantown are the sturdy, elegant stone structures known today as Cliveden, the Johnson House, the Germantown Mennonite Meeting House, and the Concord School House. Remarkably, these structures can all be attributed to one builder, Jacob Knorr. This tour will bring visitors into these charming and significant sites. We will investigate what we know about the building of early Germantown, and what mysteries remain. In the case of inclement weather, this tour will be rescheduled.     Meet the bats! Discover the nighttime world of bats during an unforgettable summer evening at Tyler Arboretum. Meet live ambassador bats, learn how these incredible mammals navigate and hunt in the dark, and explore the important role they play in healthy ecosystems. You’ll also discover how Pennsylvania Bat Conservation & Rehabilitation works to protect and care for bats throughout our region. After the presentation, head outside for a special bat release at dusk (weather permitting) and watch these nighttime fliers take to the sky.
