Join us for a conversation with Michael Rex in a more intimate and relaxed setting. Following the talk, dinner will be served allowing for more discussion with the artist and among guests. Rex’s artistic inspiration is deeply personal and two-fold. As a child, he watched his mother and grandmother knit yarn into intricate patterns, an early introduction to the power of line and form. Later, a transformative encounter with the work of artist Ruth Asawa in a 2017 exhibition expanded his vision of what wire could become. With a lifelong background in the arts, including dance, music, and professional television
Mind the Composition features artists Catherine Gontarek and Richard King. In this exhibition, the artists focus on meticulously arranging the shape, color, and design in their work, assembling defined structures. Catherine’s work alters a variety of photographs through collage that creates a new set of imagery that centers around the human mind. Richard’s work dives more into abstract geometric structures, drawing from surrounding buildings and cityscapes. Exhibitions can be seen by appointment; call InLiquid to schedule: 215-235-3405.
This new exhibition at The Fabric Workshop and Museum features selections from Jesse Krimes’s “Elegy Quilt” series (2020–present), a body of work that renders the personal effects of the U.S. carceral system through portraits of domestic spaces. Using donated textiles and American quilting traditions, Krimes creates intricately patterned quilts that meditate on memory, loss, alienation, comfort, and resilience.
The Nation of Artists tour explores the diverse narratives of American art and identity throughout the newly restored Historic Landmark Building. Led by experienced docents, the tour examines the internationalism and global exchange of American art while also highlighting works from the 18th century to the modern day which feature American artists responding to the social conditions of their time. Organized in conjunction with America's 250th anniversary, A Nation of Artists examines how artistic production in the United States has been shaped by creativity, exchange, expansion, conflict, and innovation. At PAFA, works made from the late 18th century to today

Join FRIEDAcommunity for a celebration of creativity, connection and the unexpected joy that happens when people come together to make something beautiful. This large-scale collaborative installation is the surprise culmination of a 10-month long project of FRIEDAcommunity. Composed of hand-strung disposable cutlery by volunteers, who gathered weekly around our community table (and were unaware of the final form), and assembled by artist P.W. Prichett. THANK YOU to P.W. Prichett for 1000+ hours of creative volunteering. Mark, for sharing his construction and engineering skills without whom this installation would not be lounging comfortably. THANK YOU to all the volunteers who participated

We tap our vast catalogue of commissioned works for those that examine “Where we are”; the assessment, if not always optimistic, is tirelessly honest and inquisitive as heard through the music of some of the country’s most adventurous composers. A new work of Canadian composer Nicole Lizée and works of David Lang, Shara Nova, Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, Stratis Minakakis, John Luther Adams, Edie Hill, Caroline Shaw, and Gabriel Jackson form a kind of musical quilt that says, “We are here, and this is what it feels like to be here.” Immigration. Extinction. Resolve. Ailing Planet. † ArtPhilly, whose goal
