On view at the Center for Art & Social Engagement in Westby Hall from October 4 through December 21, Gaia Theory, an exhibition of Emily Erb’s collage and silk paintings. Erb embeds within the boundaries of a larger-than-life human form, navigational charts such as road, topography, and war campaign maps to represent the different facets of the human physiological system. Road maps become the nervous system, topographical maps become the circulatory system, and war maps become the lymphatic system. The Clay Studio presents new exhibitions from alums of their Resident Artist program, including “Urschrei” by Better Lovers, the moniker for the evolving artistic practice of Layla Marcelle and Jacob Raeder. The duo launched Better Lovers in 2016 as a design company that applies contemporary dance methodologies to object-making. Meet at the Walnut Lane Golf Club (Park in the lot on Magdalena Street, across from the golf club.) Please join Andi, Debbie, and Jim as they hike the Wissahickon on the last day of October. We’ll see what the park’s flora and fauna look like in mid Autumn and visit some points of interest. The last time we did this route, it was snowing, but we will hope for a beautiful fall day. Expect some rocky ascents and descents. Children 12 years and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but no dogs other than service dogs, please.
