On view at the Center for Art & Social Engagement in Westby Hall from October 4 through December 21, Gaia Theory, an exhibition of Emily Erb’s collage and silk paintings. Erb embeds within the boundaries of a larger-than-life human form, navigational charts such as road, topography, and war campaign maps to represent the different facets of the human physiological system. Road maps become the nervous system, topographical maps become the circulatory system, and war maps become the lymphatic system. Join us for a slow-paced ride highlighting Bartram’s Bike Trail.  The ride will make a few stops, including a short info session about how to properly wear a helmet, use basic hand signals, and an overview of the trail. You can bring your own bike and helmet or rent a bike and helmet for free at the class.   Various levels of experience are welcome on the tour and no one will be left behind, but participants should have some basic riding knowledge. Meeting at Historic Rittenhouse Town Lincoln Drive is the only main road that runs right next to the creek within Wissahickon Valley Park, and one that few have had the opportunity to walk on.  This Saturday, we’re partnering with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation to close Lincoln Drive from Johnson Street to Ridge Avenue for a large-scale clean-up along this heavily traveled (and often heavily littered) road.
