Trading Knowledge: Traditional Herbal Medicines at Bartram’s Garden and Beyond SOLD OUT

May 24 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Knowledge transfer was crucial in early America as colonists developed their understanding of native plants using information shared by Indigenous peoples. John Bartram’s work and legacy was very likely shaped by his encounters with Indigenous peoples and traders who provided insight on the appearance and functions of native American plants, many of which are growing at Bartram’s Garden today.

This free 90-minute tour of Bartram’s Garden and the Native Medicinal Plant display will be accompanied by a group discussion of traditional ecological knowledge, family knowledge, and storytelling in the United States today.
