Instant Butterfly Garden

Milkweed and Monarchs: Section A

The study and preservation of the iconic monarch butterfly is a focal area for the conservation and research team at Mt. Cuba. Join Ellen Lake, director of conservation and research, and Sam Hoadley, manager of horticultural research, who will introduce the monarch’s biology and interactions with milkweed and discuss the fascinating nature of their migration. Students will take a tour of the newly planted milkweed trial and compare several milkweed species. This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba Center on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Kids Create (July)

Join us for an afternoon of nature, artmaking, and fun! Mt. Cuba partners with award-winning folk artist, Eunice LaFate, to lead a unique children’s art program in the gardens. Kids will create a mural from natural materials and go home with their own painting. This program is intended for ages 4 to 12. Art supplies provided. Included with garden admission, advance registration required. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Saturday, July 13, 2024 (Rain Date: Saturday, July 20).

Native Alternatives to Invasive Ornamentals

To help stop the spread, the Delaware state legislature recently passed a law banning the sale of 36 invasive plant species.
