Meet Philadelphia artist, Deborah Zuchman at @bennascafe (at the corner of *th & Wharton Sts.) Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 2-4pm. Deborah was an Art Demonstration Teacher and taught in the Philadelphia Public Schools for thirty-five years. She also worked as a Project Manager for the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program for several years. Zuchman paints en plein air and from her imagination. Celebrate native plants through a hands-on, ethnobotanical, foraging, and artistic experience. After a hayride through our natural lands, learn about the relationships Indigenous communities have with pokeweed, find out how to mindfully forage and gather pokeweed, make pèkòn (Lenape for red dye) with the berries, and create watercolor paintings with your homemade pèkòn. Painting with Pokeweed is a partnership between Mt. Cuba and Native Roots Farm Foundation. Children must be 8 or older to participate. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Join us with your family to adopt and plant trees at Riverbend. Fall is a wonderful time to plant trees just before it turns colder in the winter months. Planting trees at the preserve helps to provide habitat to local wildlife, combat climate change and helps to maintain our local water supply as the trees we plant keep runoff from heading to the Schuylkill River watershed. Do you have invasive vines growing in your yard? Join Riverbend staff for the first event in our Sustainable Living Series to learn how to remove vines and turn them into something beautiful. We’ll begin the workshop outside with some easy-to-follow instructions on removing invasive vines like English Ivy and five-leaf akebia. Clippers and work gloves will be provided. Next we’ll move inside Riverbend’s barn to turn the vines into a decoration you can enjoy in your own home or gift to a loved one. Every participant will receive a wooden wreath frame and have access to tools and supplies

Riverbend is hosting a Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and improve their communities. This event is open to ALL ages! Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Weathering the Winter Winters were harsh in the 18th century, but even in cold and snowy weather there was still plenty of work to do around the farm. Fires had to be built, food preserved and cooked, and animals needed tending. Visit the Farmstead on February 1st to watch our living historians demonstrate the types of farm chores a family like the Wentzes would have had to do this time of year. It’s that exciting time of the year again when our ponds fill to the brim with squirming tadpoles! Join Riverbend's Educators for this fascinating annual rite of spring that happens right here at Riverbend. Out with the old, in with the new baby clothes sizes Premie/Newborn-5T, as well as maternity clothing/gear, toys, books, and small baby gear items – no strollers, pack-n-plays, high chairs, etc, please.
