The Weekend Warm-up Hike returns to Tyler’s hiking trails! Start your Friday off right with a brisk, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. Be prepared for a mix of asphalt, gravel and natural surfaces. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. We recommend bringing along a reusable water bottle. Starting at Germantown Avenue, we’ll see the ruins of the barn of Buttercup Cottage and where Lake Surprise once was. We’ll take note of what some of our favorite and least favorite plants look like in late autumn as we hike ~4-4.25 miles. We’ll be sure to point out two interesting tulip trees on our route! Lyons is a PhD Social Welfare candidate in the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the impact of community-based anti-poverty interventions on child maltreatment and child welfare permanency outcomes for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) families. The Weekend Warm-up Hike returns to Tyler’s hiking trails! Start your Friday off right with a brisk, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. Be prepared for a mix of asphalt, gravel and natural surfaces. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. We recommend bringing along a reusable water bottle.
