This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. Join us for a cleanup on land and on water as we prepare for the opening of Flat Rock Dam.Come clean up the Manayunk Canal and towpath ahead of the Flat Rock Dam opening. This dam will divert water from the Schuylkill River back into the canal to improve water quality in our region.Our work will help preserve the health and beauty of the Manayunk Canal, Schuylkill River, and surrounding green areas before the dam opens. This specialty tour investigates many native plants and trees around the pond and near the Wissahickon Creek. It includes a brief history of the Wetland and describes the nature of a wetland ecosystem. The Wetland offers both the beauty and ruggedness created in the environment. The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education presents TERRA: Bodies and Territories, an immersive performance staged outdoors on forested land. This innovative theatrical work is the creation of Silvana Cardell, an acclaimed choreographer whose work contends with social struggles. TERRA: Bodies and Territories confronts the profound shared vulnerabilities between women’s bodies and the natural environment.
