This month we will read Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell. This story details a pumpkin's life cycle from carving to new spring vines. The kids will get messy dissecting a pumpkin, tasting the flesh and seeds, saving some seeds, then putting the remains in the meadow for the animals to munch on, and the seeds to grow next year. $5.00 per child. Learn about gardening, greening, and the environment and how to incorporate them into the classroom or after-school activities. Green City Teachers is a five-session virtual course that uses experiential learning to give teachers, educators, parents, and mentors the background knowledge to pass gardening along to the next generation. Topics include basic horticulture, growing outdoors in winter, food gardening, light gardening, plant propagation, finding resources, and green career exploration for youth. A Story That’s Waited Eighteen Years To Be Told! Firebird: Built to Burn delves into a year in the making of the beloved Firebird Festival, where a tight-knit community gathers every December to ignite a giant wooden phoenix. Fueled by their rustbelt spirit, a diverse group of volunteers persevere through pandemic restrictions, local government negotiations, and months of arduous building to orchestrate a cathartic come-back festival after their absence in 2020. Told through intimate interviews and fly-on-the-wall verité, Firebird: Built to Burn is a wholesome look into an unconventional tradition. A veteran tree can be defined as a tree that is of interest biologically, culturally or aesthetically because of its age, size or condition. Some trees are instantly recognizable as veterans, but many are less obvious.
