    FOR ADULTS 18+ Listen, watch, and discover the birds of Tyler Arboretum. Explore Tyler’s forests and meadows with birders Sara Boucas Neto, Chuck Root, and Dave Eberly. Hear the calls, spot the birds, and experience this Audubon-recognized Important Bird Area firsthand. Gates open at 7:45 am. The group leaves promptly from the parking lot at 8:10 am.     FOR ADULTS (18+) AND TEENS AGES 15-17 Slow down and experience the Arboretum with naturalist Dr. Richard Brenner. Explore forests, meadows, streams, and rocky outcrops while learning about wildlife, plants, geology, and history. Each Ramble is shaped by the season, inviting you to notice the details and see the Arboretum with fresh eyes. Come curious, leave inspired.   • Weekend Warm-up Hike

    FOR ADULTS 18+ Start your Friday on the right foot with an invigorating one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and into the wilder natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. Designed as a moderate cardio workout, we’ll cover about 2½ to 3 miles at a fast pace—but don’t worry, we’ll also take time to pause for those unexpected moments nature has in store.   • Firefly Walk

    FOR ADULTS 18+ AND TEENS AGES 13-17 Experience Tyler after dark as fireflies light up the landscape. Step into fields, meadows, and forest at dusk and explore the Arboretum in a whole new way. Listen for nighttime sounds, notice shifting shadows, and take in the scents of the evening. Look for fireflies along the way as your guide points out their flickering lights, explains how they communicate, and shares simple ways you can help fireflies thrive at home. Gates open at 7:45 pm.   • Beyond the Fence Trail Hike

    FOR ALL AGES Learn to navigate Tyler’s trail system. Walk along easy trails on this leisurely hike that’s perfect for the whole family, giving you plenty of time to pause, observe, and ask questions. The woods are full of surprises, with plenty to see, hear, and talk about as you explore. What to expect: Check in at the Visitor Center, and then meet your guide.   • Hike with Philadelphia Wildlife Tracking Club

    FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN/TEENS AGES 10-17 Follow your curiosity! Join the Philadelphia Wildlife Tracking Club and move through the landscape, stopping to observe animal tracks and signs along the way. Bring your curiosity and enthusiasm, and share observations along the way as you get to know your wild neighbors a little better. This is a free program, but PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED as we have limited space. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All levels of tracking experience welcome. Check in with your guide on the Visitor Center patio. What to expect: We will hike 1 -2 miles at a slow pace. Walking

  • Saturday Wildflower Walk

    For Adults (18+) and Teens ages 12-17  Explore the Arboretum with wildflower expert Dick Cloud. Slow down and look closely at what’s growing along meadows, wooded paths, and occasional streamside spots. Enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing the landscape in detail and notice the Arboretum with fresh eyes. In May and June, spot wildflowers of late spring and early summer. All levels of experience are welcome. Check in at the Visitor Center and then meet your guide. On the tour you’ll learn all about the city’s hidden infrastructure, including the many creeks like the Wingohocking that were buried in sewers, and learn why some streams still run on the surface today. Weather permitting, we’ll have opportunities to explore parts of the watershed on foot, so please wear appropriate footwear. The tour will begin and end at Cliveden and
