SWWAG Workshop: Elderberry Syrup Making

Mill Creek Farm 4901 Brown St, Philadelphia, PA

Instructor Yam Vallis will lead folks in an Afro-Herbalism workshop on the history of the Elderberry plant and the making of syrup. Participants will have a chance to take home elderberry syrup, but we will also make large batches, with the intention of distributing the rest, with a focus on Philly’s Black community and herbal hubs like Black Bird Rising.

Intro to Ayurveda: Pancha Bhutas (5 elements) in Nature

Come learn traditional healing practices to support your digestive and mental health and wellness. As an Ayurvedic Practitioner, Neha will share the nature-based wisdom of Ayurveda and its beneficial practices to heal the body, mind, and spirit. Each 2-hour class will involve a teaching, along with some gentle guided practice of movement, hands-on bodywork, and meditation. The first week will teach on the 5 elements and how they form the doshas and constitutional makeup of an individual. Indigenous Phytotherapy | The Plants That Heal: Medicinal Plants from Seed To Bottle 1: Seed planting and Herbal Infusion Making

Coach House 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia, PA

Plant seeds and learn to care for, cultivate, and harvest plants for making herbal infusions. All classes and gatherings in the Indigenous Phytotherapy series are donation-based, with a sliding scale suggestion of $10-$40 per session or $2 for Southwest residents and ACCESS cardholders. You can donate via Venmo to the facilitator or in cash at the event. No one will be turned away for their inability to pay. 

Glow Together Eastwick Walking Group

Start your morning with intention, meet your neighbors, and celebrate the guardians of our natural world with the Glow Together Eastwick Walking Group. This walking group will meet on alternating days at Bartram’s Garden every 3rd and 4th Thursdays and John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge every 1st and 2nd Thursdays. Meet at the Garden’s 56th and Lindbergh Blvd entrance (please note: free parking is not available at the Garden during these hours, so you must utilize street parking). All ages are welcome in this free and inclusive group. Come as you are and let’s glow together!  

Community Movie Night: A Minecraft Movie

Join us for the last free community movie night of the summer! Bring your picnic blankets, bug spray, and snacks, and enjoy a free, family-friendly movie under the evening sky. No registration is necessary. We’ll be watching A Minecraft Movie (2025), starting at 7:30pm. Do you like carrots, beets, and broccoli? Come to Sankofa Community Farm to learn the basics of planting your fall garden. We will also cover fall maintenance, including best practices in natural agriculture and pest management. Led by Kyone Carter. (beginner-friendly!)
