Slow Roll Memorial Bike Ride for Barbara

Civic Center Blvd and Spruce St.

The Bicycle Coalition and Families for Safe Streets will work in collaboration with Barbara's friends and family to host a silent, slow roll bike ride from Civic Center Blvd and Spruce St. to the site of Barbara Friedes crash, 18th and Spruce. Part of the Transcending Thresholds initiative to study, restore and interpret the service spaces at Cliveden, this innovative project will conserve and restore the early well to function. Cliveden Preservation Director Libbie Hawes and architectural conservator Andy Palewski will discuss the construction and technology that provided necessary water for the kitchen and household in the 18th and 19th centuries. The project included removing three sections of wood well pump, restoring the 40-foot-deep stone well shaft and removing the objects and mud at the bottom. This specialty tour investigates many native plants and trees around the pond and near the Wissahickon Creek. It includes a brief history of the Wetland and describes the nature of a wetland ecosystem. The Wetland offers both the beauty and ruggedness created in the environment. Wetlands provide important resources--water, food, shelter--vital for plants, trees and wildlife that create a native abundant habitat. This tour is off-path, and visitors are advised to wear walking or hiking shoes. Meet at the kiosk as you enter the Morris. Park to the left of the garden entrance. Free with general admission!
