  • Life After Death: The Importance of Dead and Dying Trees

    Most people are familiar with the innumerable benefits of living trees, but even after their death, trees provide vital habitat, shelter, and food for wildlife. Join our partner, Morris Arboretum, for a program to learn how dead and dying trees still teem with life, from tiny termites to fantastic flying squirrels and everything in between. This program will begin inside with a lecture and discussion and then move outdoors to explore the way Stoneleigh: a natural garden has worked to incorporate dead wood into its landscape projects and native plantings.   • Radiant Redbuds

    Adorned in blooms of ivory, magenta, or dusty rose, eastern redbuds are among the showiest and most beloved of our spring-blooming trees. During this guided walk, explore Stoneleigh’s spectacular collection of nearly 30 eastern redbud varieties and bask in the beauty of the many other early-blooming trees in the spring garden.

  • Spring Walks Series – Walk at Hildacy Preserve

    This gathering is exclusive to members and guests of the Allston Jenkins Legacy and White Oak Societies. Absorb the beauty of spring and connect with fellow Society members. Join us for a guided hike led by Hildacy Preserve Manager, Mike Coll. Get a firsthand look at this 55-acre preserve, including its thriving native grassland meadow and avian delights—Eastern Bluebird, American Kestrel, Indigo Bunting, and Red-shouldered Hawk—that inhabit the property. In fact, Stoneleigh is home to eight trees that are among the 10 largest of their respective species in the state, including two state champions.   • Eco-Printing with Wildflowers Workshop – SOLD OUT

    This event is now sold out. Please join us at another outdoor adventure. Join natural dyer and textile artist Laura Hricko for a hands-on workshop at Stoneleigh, where the surrounding landscape will serve as both inspiration and resource. Using locally grown and native dye flowers and foliage, this workshop will guide you through the natural dye technique known as “eco-printing” to create either a set of two linen napkins or an organic cotton bandana and silk scarf.   As we work, we’ll discuss the fundamentals of natural dyeing, including fiber preparation, plant selection, and the unique qualities of plant dyes.

    Enjoy dazzling displays of native plants, stately trees, and historical landscapes by the Olmsted Brothers that have been thoughtfully reimagined into a beautiful and biodiverse haven for people and wildlife.   • Crochet Your Own Ornament Workshop

    Join us for a morning of creativity at this crochet workshop led by Stoneleigh staff. Using yarn made from natural materials, you will create three ornaments to bring holiday cheer to your home or gift to a loved one.    This workshop is for experienced crocheters. We’ll provide the materials, patterns, and guidance. Please bring your own crochet hooks. You are also welcome to bring yarn from your own collection, if you prefer. This class will be held indoors at the Pool House. Coffee, tea, and light snacks will be provided.

  • Natural Materials Ornament Workshop

    Come enjoy a festive gathering while learning to make holiday ornaments from natural materials. From seed pods to feathers, beech nuts to pinecones, gardens can be a great source of materials for seasonal decorations. Learn how to develop your creative eye for using these natural materials and turn them into something sustainably beautiful under the guidance of Stoneleigh staff. Participants will make 3 to 4 ornaments during the workshop to take home. All materials provided. Bring your own pruners or snips. This class will be held indoors at the Pool House.
