Join us for a fun and creative afternoon of community quilting as a part of the Mother Tongue series, which celebrates healing and liberation through Black art. Bring your own fabric scraps or use some of ours to create a unique quilt square that can be the start of something beautiful or a stand-alone piece for your lap or table. In case of inclement weather, this workshop will be rescheduled to 3/28. Join artist Eric César Morales for an art-making workshop! Participants will learn to weave intricate jewelry with seeds harvested from around Philadelphia, including the grounds of Bartram’s Garden, as well as seeds collected from Latin America and the Pacific. We will learn about the historical and cultural significance of each type of seed, including their roles in art, music, food, medicine, and folktales. The Historical Society of Frankford (HSF) is pleased to host Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Tacony LAB Community Art Center Northeast 250: Threads of History community arts project on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:00 PM at the Society’s library/museum at 1507 Orthodox St, Philadelphia. This project, part of the City's US Semiquincentennial celebrations, will shine spotlights at several venues on the history of Northeast Philadelphia and the many small organizations that keep that history alive. BARRIO TELEVISION (work in progress) by Christina DiPasquale (USA, 2026, TBD) BARRIO TELEVISION uncovers the story of Puerto Rican activists who produced the first bilingual Latino television series to air nationwide called “Realidades.” After tracing U.S. complicity in the 1973 coup in Chile, “Realidades” received backlash and the Nixon administration moved to cut public-media funding, knocking the show off the air. Undeterred, the creators mounted a comeback—training media makers in Philadelphia, organizing a media coalition, and sparking a fight for media power that continues to this day. Please note: this workshop takes place at Mill Creek Farm (4901 Brown St. , Philadelphia, PA 19139). Join us for a FREE immersive and educational workshop on harvesting and processing elderberries! You will be taken through a step-by-step process of processing elderberries, showcasing the creation of an elderberry oxymel. Led by Afro-Indigenous Clinical and Community Herbalist Yam Vallis, in partnership with the Philadelphia Orchard Project and Mill Creek Urban Farm. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with: a deeper understanding of Afro-Diasporic Herbalism practices practical skills in harvesting and processing elderberries and a delicious elderberry preparation to enjoy at home.
