This engaging chamber concert on September 22 includes individual and small string ensemble performances and features the Mendelssohn Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor. Other highlights of the program are Bach’s Prelude from Suite No. 2 in D minor for solo cello, and cello duets by Domenico Gabrielli and Georg Sothilander. A string quartet will perform the traditional Celtic tunes Star of the County Down and After the Battle of Aughrim. The Bicycle Coalition and Families for Safe Streets will work in collaboration with Barbara's friends and family to host a silent, slow roll bike ride from Civic Center Blvd and Spruce St. to the site of Barbara Friedes crash, 18th and Spruce. Many people have heard an owl, but few have ever seen one. Mt. Cuba’s varied landscapes and topography provide the ideal habitats for three of Delaware’s native owl species – the barred, great horned, and Eastern screech – and winter is the best time to spot them roosting in our trees. Owls are nocturnal so join us as we search for them just after dusk. Following a brief introductory lecture, we’ll head into the garden and listen for their unique calls. Dress for the weather. Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. This

Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring, hundreds of them cross Port Royal, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings, saving hundreds of toads. This

Welsh Road Library will host Minas for a small music program. Minas introduces students to the country of Brazil through its music, Samba and Bossa Nova. After performing examples of Brazilian music and presenting historic, geographical and educational references, they introduce Brazil’s famous festival Carnaval, demonstrating authentic Brazilian percussion instruments - surdo, tamborim, repinique, agogô, reco-reco, ganzá, pandeiro, and cuíca. Participation is enhanced by engaging students to sing in Portuguese (the language of Brazil), scat, and play Brazilian samba percussion (instruments supplied). Students learn while being engaged and having fun.

Visible mending is an art of repair and sentimentality. Whether you’re interested in offsetting the negative effects of fast fashion, preserving meaningful objects, or simply enjoy the meditative act of sewing and embroidering, this workshop will provide a space for you to do so. This three-hour workshop is a place to commune, connect and share with others as you learn mending techniques for reviving old clothes, linens, and fabrics. The state of Pennsylvania and the city of Philadelphia are home to a diverse array of churches and religious organizations. This program will outline the history of some of the most famous religious monuments of our region. We will begin in the 17th century with the figure of Johannes Kelpius, a German Pietist who established an apocalyptic religious community in the Wissahickon Valley. In this community workshop at Taller Puertorriqueño, dancer and choreographer Silvana Cardell will lead participants in creative movement exercises. Participants will learn about Cardell’s current project, TERRA: Bodies and Territories, which explores the shared vulnerabilities between women’s bodies and the environment through the medium of dance. The workshop will guide participants in movements drawn from TERRA, exploring how their bodies relate to natural elements, mimicking growth, flow, resistance, and connection to the earth.
