Ravel by Krista Dedrick-Lai – Opening Reception

Chimaera Gallery 3502 Scotts Lane #2113, Philadelphia, PA, United States

A solo exhibition by Philadelphia-based artist Krista Dedrick-Lai. February 10 – March 23, 2024 Ravel is an interesting word. A contranym. It can be both a noun and a verb. It can mean both tangle and untangle. And isn’t that how life can be sometimes? We find ourselves in a great big mess. And the more we try to tease the mess apart and get everything back in order, the more jumbled it becomes. In the end there is no reweaving the unraveled tapestry, not really. There is simply taking the threads you have at your feet and starting again.

Recklessly Optimistic by Adrian Hatfield – Opening Reception

Chimaera Gallery 3502 Scotts Lane #2113, Philadelphia, PA, United States

Adrian Hatfield makes work addressing his anxiety about our current environmental crisis, balanced by hope that humanity can rise to meet the challenge. The paintings convey those experiences in tension: dread, splendor, joy, terror, wonder and the absurdity of human inaction. Their iconography samples and ?recombines elements from art history, scientific illustration, pop culture and satire, with a goal of existing somewhere between a requiem, a science fiction fever dream, and a call-to-arms. Opening Reception: Saturday, July 13, 6-8:30 p.m. Closing Reception: Saturday, August 31, 6-8:30 p.m. Gallery Hours: Saturdays 12-4 p.m., or by appointment chimaeragallery.com [email protected] 3502 Scotts Lane,
