The space will be open both Saturday (10/19) and Sunday (10/20) for folks to come through. Sunday will have extra fun added, being a big blow-out community Open House!! Now in its 38th year, AIDS Walk Philly is the region’s largest annual HIV/AIDS public awareness and fundraising event. The 5k walk starts in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and winds through scenic Kelly Drive. As a walker, virtual walker, or supporter of AIDS Walk Philly, you will be a lifeline for the most vulnerable people living with HIV. Your support helps AIDS Fund make small grants (averaging just $440) for the most vulnerable of those living with HIV: those who find their health threatened because of impending evictions or the loss of health insurance or utilities. Join us for an exciting BioBlitz on Sunday, October 20th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at The Woodlands! In partnership with The Woodlands and Philadelphia Mycology Club participants will use the app iNaturalist to explore the biodiversity of The Woodlands (an incredible green space located in West Philadelphia) all while participating in community science! Community science data collected through iNaturalist observations is key to help monitor urban biodiversity health. What is a BioBlitz? During a set period of time at a set location, participants focus on finding and identifying as many species as they can. How do I participate?

In collaboration with Bird Town, PA, Riverbend invites you to our Fall Bird Walk. New for the Fall of 2024: We are offering separate start times for adults and families. Adult Bird Walk (12 and up) : 9:00am - 10:30am Family Bird Walk Led by Suzanne Safran: 10:30am - 11:30am Walk with birder and conservationist Phil Witmer or Riverbend Education Manager Suzanne Safran as they lead families on a leisurely walk around the preserve at Riverbend. Check out the many species of birds that call Riverbend their home! Phil Witmer is an avid birder and conservationist with over 30 years
Pose in costume in the Rose Garden with your friends, then after sunset come back to the Welcome Center to paint small portraits of each other to take home! For adults only.
Join us with your family to adopt and plant trees at Riverbend. Fall is a wonderful time to plant trees just before it turns colder in the winter months. Planting trees at the preserve helps to provide habitat to local wildlife, combat climate change and helps to maintain our local water supply as the trees we plant keep runoff from heading to the Schuylkill River watershed. Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH), will host its first annual Fall Festival on November 3, 2024, from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, at Rose Tree Park in Media, Pennsylvania. This event will celebrate National Adoption Month and support families who are experiencing the process of adoption. This event is open to all, offering a variety of vendors, delicious food, exciting family-friendly activities and games, a photo booth, and so much more! Proceeds from the event will provide crucial resources for families going through the adoption process while directly supporting AFTH’s programming, which includes counseling, support groups, and family resources. Many people have heard an owl, but few have ever seen one. Mt. Cuba’s varied landscapes and topography provide the ideal habitats for three of Delaware’s native owl species – the barred, great horned, and Eastern screech – and winter is the best time to spot them roosting in our trees. Owls are nocturnal so join us as we search for them just after dusk. Following a brief introductory lecture, we’ll head into the garden and listen for their unique calls. Dress for the weather. This tour introduces concepts surrounding the value of nature as it relates to health and well-being. Explore the gardens and discuss the evolutionary and environmental phenomena behind concepts like forest bathing, mindfulness, stress recovery, and the biophilia hypothesis. Learn how elements of landscape design shape our emotional and behavioral experiences in nature. One hour, $7 in addition to admission, free for members. This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba Center on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
