Would you like to be part of keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then join us on Thursdays mornings for a variety of stewardship projects! Locations and tasks will vary week to week, and may include trash clean-ups, trail improvements, invasive plant removal, graffiti removal, and general park beautification. No experience is needed. We provide gloves, tools and instruction – you just need to show up! Volunteer service Days are excellent, easy ways to help us take care of Wissahickon Valley Park. Spring Botanical Art Series: Learning to Draw Spring Wildflowers

Discover the fascinating details of spring wildflowers from Mt. Cuba’s gardens in this relaxed, beginner level class. Develop basic drawing skills through observing and sketching a variety of flowers, leaves, and branches. Explore line, shape, and form, and follow up with instructor demonstrations. Plenty of exercises will build confidence in drawing native spring flowers. No previous art experience needed. This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba’s gardens, learn how to draw flowers, foliage, and stems realistically in this entry-level program. Start with the elements of line, shape, and form, and progress to developing your own personal drawing style. Begin with Learning to Draw Spring Wildflowers or dive into the upper-level courses if you already have the basics. $155 per course or $419 for the series. By tending to the Courtyard Garden and Front Entrance Garden at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, you’ll enhance beauty and biodiversity of this important landscape. Tools are provided, but feel free to bring your own. Remember your waterbottle, to wear sturdy shoes, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! Dispose of your electronic waste sustainably during Earth WeekHelp us celebrate Earth Week by participating in an electronics recycling drive. This event is a collaboration between Haverford's Committee for Environmental Responsibility (CER), the Arboretum, and PAR-Recycleworks. Large appliances, light bulbs, and batteries will not be accepted. All data on devices is wiped and destroyed.This event will take place in the South Lot. The Secret Lives of Spring Wildflowers: Section A

Skunk cabbage, bloodroot, and trout lilies are among the first signs of spring and warmer weather ahead. Spring ephemerals and wildflowers must complete part of their life cycle before the tree canopy leafs out, reducing light levels at the forest floor. These plants face many challenges including unpredictable weather and pollinator availability. Spring wildflowers have special adaptations to overcome these challenges, and intricate relationships with pollinators and seed dispersers. Learn more about these wildflowers, their life histories, and plant-insect interactions, and look for them during a guided walk in the gardens. This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba

Before embarking on this steady, silent, slow amble to the Wissahickon Creek, you will be introduced to the terrain, how it sheds water, and how this action safeguards our drinking water. Over the Carpenter Run and through the woods we will go, visiting varied surprise locations as we walk to Kitchens Lane Bridge, where we will take in spectacular views of the Wissahickon gorge.
