Some works are based on close observation of nature; others are inspired by natural forms and systems. Many incorporate foraged and natural materials. Through a variety of styles and media, Interconnected is a creative meditation on the web of life.

Ursula Sternberg: Daydream is a celebration of the career of Philadelphia area artist, the late Ursula Sternberg. Sternberg’s life and career spanned many mediums and multiple continents taking her from Nazi occupied Germany to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. From the 1970s to her death in 2000, Sternberg was actively involved in the Philadelphia art scene, fostering maker spaces that brought together the local community of artists for an opportunity to socialize, inspire, and be inspired. Imagine a Clean Energy Future

Philadelphia Solar Energy Association has launched a contest for students in grades 5 - 12 to Imagine a Clean Energy Future. In order to build a sustainable future, we have to be able to see it. The contest has three categories, and students may enter submissions in 1, 2 or all 3 of the categories: Visual Arts: all visual media accepted: drawings, paintings, collages, etc. Language Arts: 500 words or less essay, poem or other written format Video: 90 seconds or less showing an invention, or other idea to help us build a clean energy future. The Clay Studio presents Figuring Space

The Clay Studio presents Figuring Space, a new exhibition comprised of full-scale, figurative sculptures by 12 leading ceramic artists based in the United States. Each of the artists explores their individual cultural identity and what it means to be human through their figurative sculptures. The powerful figures will serve as a body of evidence to lay bare the issues that permeate American art and social culture. Figuring Space is co-curated by Jennifer Zwilling, Curator and Director of Artistic Programs at The Clay Studio, and Dr. Kelli Morgan, Professor of the Practice and Director of Cultural Studies at Tufts University.

Public Projects Meeting

Join Friends of the Wissahickon via Zoom on Tuesday, January 17, for its Annual Public Projects Meeting to hear about the organization’s upcoming plans and projects to conserve our community’s treasured Wissahickon Valley Park.  FOW’s Executive Director Ruffian Tittmann will review last year’s improvements and the status of current and planned conservation projects, while Director of Field Stewardship Shawn Green will share FOW’s volunteer achievements from 2022 as well as how to get involved in 2023, and Capital Projects Coordinator Pauline Berkowitz will discuss the ongoing Germantown Neighborhood Connection and the East Falls Reroute and Habitat Restoration projects.
