Writers Workshop – From Words on a Page to a Book on the Shelf
September 24, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
$15 – $30
The Bucks County Book Festival announces their annual Writers Workshop on September 24th, from 9am-12pm. This year’s event is led by two published authors who are also literary agents. The topics are perfecting your pitch and query skills, and, understanding the pros and cons of the many publishing options available today. It includes an hour-long, “May I Pick Your Brain?” question and answer period where all questions about the writing journey will be welcomed. Doors open at 8:30am at the Mandell Science Building on the Delaware Valley University campus at 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown, Pa. Tickets are $30 for the three-hour workshop and are available at BucksBookFest.org. High School and College student pricing is $15.
How do I transition from words on a page to a book on the shelf? “Past participants have been asking for help with the business side of writing so this year we’re delivering that information straight from two literary agents and published authors,” explains BucksBookFest founder, Ellen R. Green.
Workshop leader Marie Lamba teaches how to pitch and query like a pro and will show you how to avoid serious pitfalls and how to best showcase your work. You’ll learn how to craft a strong hook, how to target queries for the best results, what can make or break a verbal pitch, and much more. At the end of this session, you’ll have all the skills you need to make your work stand out, taking you a step closer to your goal of getting published.
Sarah N. Fisk covers the changes and new opportunities in the publishing industry that have made it an exciting time to be an author but have also made it one of the most confusing times as well. In this workshop you’ll learn the advantages and disadvantages of the many different publishing paths available.
The question-and-answer session will be led by local radio talk show and podcast host, Claudine Wolk, who also publishes the Substack Newsletter, Get Your Book Seen and Sold, which gives authors the motivation they need to get started, keep writing, and market the heck out of their books.
