Join FABSCRAP in our Earth Month SORT-A-THON! We will be open for 12-HOURS OF CONTINUOUS SORTING! Sign up for up to 6 hours of sorting!
WHAT’S SORT-A-THON?
Sort-A-Thon is FABSCRAP’s 12-hour fabric sorting marathon event, and we’re recruiting all our FAB friends to come and help sort fabric! Our goal is to sort 5,000 pounds of textiles across both locations! FABSCRAP will provide meals, and entertainment – creating an experience similar to a productive party and fundraiser.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Participants can register for 2-hour sorting blocks and take home 3 pounds of fabric for each 2-hr block they complete. For example, 4 hours of sorting = 6 pounds of free fabric! So don’t forget to buffer in some time to shop after you’ve completed your final sorting block and redeem your free fabric!
*Maximum of three, 2-hour blocks per attendee.
WHY?
On average, we collect 7,000 pounds of textile waste at both of our locations each week. We need the help of our volunteers to make a dent in our growing pile of material. Sort-A-Thon is also a perfect opportunity for all of our volunteers to meet and connect!
Come ready to sort, eat, and hang out with our community! It will be a fun-filled day of recycling-related activities.
( Details continued below…)
WHAT TO EXPECT…
During each session we will:
Welcome & Train: Overview of FABSCRAP and training where you learn how FABSCRAP sorts fabric for recycling (15 minutes)
Sort: Sort through fabric samples and large pieces, pulling out usable fabrics for reuse and removing hardware and paper from fabric swatches for recycling (1 hour 45 minutes)
***Sorting fabric requires the use of sharp scissors and moderate lifting (20-30 lbs.) By registering for a session, you are confirming that you have read, understand, and agree to the volunteer waiver.***
Dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes. Most volunteers sort while standing, but we can provide chairs if you prefer to sit.
We play music but feel free to bring headphones.
Out of respect for everyone in our community, if you are feeling ill prior to the event, we ask that you cancel your ticket and do not attend.
