Richard’s Rambles: Hike to Pink Hill Serpentine Barrens

May 1 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

FOR ADULTS (18+) AND TEENS AGES 15-17
Pink Hill showcases the only surviving serpentine barren of the 10 that once existed in Delaware County. Join us as we explore this unique landscape and look for endangered and threatened species that call this harsh environment home. In early May we hope to see the pink serpentine phlox, for which this barren was named, along with other unusual species endemic to serpentine barrens.
Note: Please meet your guide at the Visitor Center and be prepared to hike to the Serpentine Barrens, a walk of about 30 minutes. There is one short, steep staircase to enter the Barrens.
There’s more to discover in Tyler’s 650 acres. Join Dr. Richard Brenner for a walk through the various eco-communities at Tyler. From seasonal wonders, living fossils, meadows, watery locations, geological treasures, conservation areas, and unexpected wildlife, Richard will expertly guide you to prime areas for an experience you will remember. Expertise from others will often be on hand for a more in-depth exploration. These rambles are for those who have a love for nature, exploring, and learning. While a description of each ramble is posted in advance, we reserve the right to make last-minute changes, including adjustments for weather and trail conditions. Bring your reusable water bottle and dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Long pants and bug spray for tick prevention are recommended.
Upon arrival, please check in first at the Visitor Center, where you’ll then meet your guide.
