Quilting Sustainably with Appalachian String Quilting (with Em Vieser)

Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice.

Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice. Each attendee will be instructed on how to create a mini quilt comprised of four 8″x8″ squares, batting, and backing. Appalachian String Quilting is a traditional approach to quilt making that makes use found materials and provides beginners with the necessary skills to go on and create their own quilts. The act of sewing and creating our own textiles is necessary to build self sufficiency and by using scrap fabrics, we can be mindful of our environmental impact while also creating unique representations of our identities.

PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR OWN FABRIC FOR THIS WORKSHOP!

When registering, if it’s within your means, please consider a donation when registering through Eventbrite to help us cover the expenses of this workshop. The cost of to run this workshop is roughly $15 per person.

This workshop will have enough materials available for 8 people. If you can no longer come, even if it’s the day of, please let us know so we can open your seat for someone else.
