In the Soft Light brings together four artists who explore the masculine through the soft light of photography and sculpture. Each artist delves into the physical and emotional closeness between men, finding softness and lightness while challenging traditional conceptions of masculinity. Photographers Thomas W. Moore, German Ayala Vazquez, and Robert Carter, along with sculptor Michael Biello, examine intimacy and the body through the lens of sexual dissidence.
Michael Biello: a ceramic sculptor who draws inspiration from his Italian-American roots and his passion for theatre. One of the artisan/makers who helped create the revivals of Old City Philadelphia in the 1970’s and Noho New York in the 1990’s.
Robert Carter: His sensitivity to detail became the legacy and abiding thread that connects the continuum of his art and that especially distinguishes his art of today. The dignity of the human spirit reigns within the people of Robert Carter’s compositions, uplifted by the virtuosity of his hand and his privileged understanding of human nature.
Thomas W. Moore: his current work originates from a continued interest in men – especially their personas, bodies, desires, tensions, and intimacy. His approach includes juxtaposing the figures, both current and from his archives, with other elements to stimulate new narratives. These images are matched, often by chance, to further explore relationships that transcend time and space.
German Vazquez: brings a unique and authentic perspective to his work, enabling brands and publishers to convey their messages with a genuine and culturally attuned vision. Notable among his recent clientele are esteemed entities such as Condé Nast, Apple, Barrons Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, Shutterstock, and many More
