Grid has received a number of inquiries from readers interested in combating systemic racism who are looking for lists of local black-owned businesses they can support in their daily lives. As a jumping-off point, we have started a list of vegan businesses with black or bi-racial ownership that we hope will grow over time with reader input.

All the Way Live is an all-vegan, all-raw, alkaline food restaurant located in Germantown. Most of us know what raw vegan food is, if you are wondering about the alkaline component, it means foods that help to balance the acidity in your body when consumed. Their naturally vibrant colored dishes encompass salads, soups and even a raw chickpea burger.
Currently open for takeout and delivery (through Grubhub, UberEats & Postmates) the following days/time: Thursday 12 to- 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday 12 to 9 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 7 p.m.
Bright Land Coffee brews and bottles in Philadelphia. They distribute cold brew bottles in a conventional format as well as a variety infused with CBD. You can find their cold brew and freshly roasted beans at a variety of area locations including V Marks the Shop, Hip Hemp Cafe, and NuVaux Market in East Falls. Located in the ReadingTerminal Market, Cooking Alchemy offers plant based spice blends, cooking pastes and bouillons. Their emphasis as a company is on promoting health through positive food choices, so in addition to their products they also offer customized meal planning and coaching classes.
Although the shop has temporarily suspended in-person sales from the Reading Terminal, their products are still available for delivery through Mercato at the Reading Terminal Market shops.

This woman-owned business has an emphasis on using earth-friendly and health forward ingredients and is “10 Free,” meaning polishes are free of the top 10 toxic chemicals typically found in nail colors. Earth Kandy’s nail polishes use all vegan ingredients, are halal certified, and cruelty-free. Polish colors range from earth tones to jewel hues and pastels.

This vegan soul food pop-up makes food that many vegans thought they would never again find on their plate. Fried fish fillets and crab cakes made from hearts of palm, “C-food’ pasta salad, tender cornbread, saucy ribs as well as a rotating cast of sides and desserts.
Currently Go Vegan Philly is accepting orders by phone on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Little Man’s Juice Bar and Grill

Located in Northeast Philadelphia, Little Man’s Juice Bar & Grill has fresh-squeezed juices and health shots for the cleanest eaters as well as an array of dishes from the grill and frier to indulge in. Favorites include seitan wings in your choice of five sauces, fried mac-and-cheese spring rolls, and vegan buffalo blue cheese fries. There is also a small pescatarian section on the menu.

The Nile Cafe offers an array of vegan soul food with a frequently rotating menu which includes jerk chicken drumsticks, Jamaican “beef” patties, roast duck and beautiful vegan cakes. The cafe won the award for the longest standing vegan restaurant in Philly in the 2019 Philly Vegan Awards.
Current hours: Tuesday-Saturday 12p.m. to 8 p.m.
Unsoul Food has worked for years out of a commissary kitchen and on June 22, they moved to a new home on Poplar Street. Circumstances rapidly shifted forcing them to abruptly seek a new location at the start of July. They are currently hosting a fundraising campaign through goFundme to help facilitate their move. Their new menu will include well-loved dishes such as their award-winning mac-and-cheese, Crispy Unchick’N Sandwich and Beyond cheesesteaks with the addition of shakes, lattes and a breakfast menu.

Veganish features a majority-vegan menu with a few pescatarian dishes thrown in. Customer favorites include their Vietnamese hoagie, BBQ cauliflower “wings” and cupcakes. In addition to pickup, you can find them for delivery at blackandmobile.com.

Philadelphia’s only vegan convenience store. The shop’s owners/curators are constantly bringing in exciting new inventory to try, featuring some Pennsylvania-made favorites like Conscious Cultures Creamery, Vegan Treats, and vegan deli slices from Love Again Local sandwich shop. V Marks the Shop is currently open for online and phone orders with an option for curbside pickup or local delivery through Mercato.
