Love Songs of the Ancient Drummers
Friday, August 14 | 7:30-9:30pm | The Lightning House at The Farm at Awbury
As we move into late summer, crickets, katydids, cicadas and grasshoppers have begun filling the night air with their rhythmic sounds.
Join us at dusk on Friday, August 14th to tune into the vibrations and acoustic ecology of our local stridulators. Entomologist Joe Sweeney will introduce us to the anatomy of these ancient musicians, as Pete Angevine, Eugene Lew and Brooke Sietinsons guide us through a series of sonic investigations with instruments such as the clave, and guiro that emulate cricket songs. The entire Lightning House will resonate with cricket song to live improvisation. As darkness falls we will use the technique of light trapping to attract the bugs into a special viewing.
Light seasonal refreshments served. This event is FREE & open to all.
