National Trails Day Volunteer Service

Meeting at Wigard Avenue Trailhead (726 Wigard Avenue)
Parking: There is plenty of parking near the trailhead. See map for details.
Bathrooms: There will not be restrooms available during the service day.
Would you like to take part in keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then volunteer with us for National Trails Day, an annual celebration held on the first Saturday of June, organized by the American Hiking Society to promote trail stewardship and connect people with the outdoors. We’ll be starting a trail reroute along the Yellow Trail, cutting back overgrown vegetation, and cleaning up litter.
All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities:
• Trail work: using long-handled tools for scraping, digging, tamping, and cutting; moving heavy objects
• Invasive plant removal: bending over, using long handled tools for cutting vines
• Litter clean-up
We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
